Business analysis

Business analysis is a process of determining business needs and solutions to the problems. It helps in understanding the alterations in the business and the effect of those alterations in the business, analyzing and recording the requirements and delivery of the requirements with relevant parties. There are different types of requirements in business analysis. some of them are mentioned below.

Solution requirements

Solution requirements are of two types

  • Functional and
  • Nonfunctional requirements.

Functional requirements

It deals with how the solution or service should function from the product user perspective. It identifies the characteristics and functions with which the product user interacts directly. Functional requirements are analyzed to describe the desired solution. The requirement should capture the business targets and should meet the business needs when implemented. Requirement should be stated clearly and completely to implement the solution.

Non – functional requirements

These requirements are used to define the qualities of a system or a process like usability, scalability, extensibility, reliability etc.

Operational requirements


operational requirement specify the operations or the activities implemented in the background to retain the product functioning over a period of time. Operational requirement is a document which states the business needs to complete the tasks. Operational requirement is used in the phase of product management.

Technical requirements

Technical requirements describe the technical issues or problems which are very important in the implementation of a process. Technical requirements needs an understanding of business targets, business domain and system technology.

Business analysis requires a strategic planning. An organization occasionally makes some sort of decisions which affect the entire destiny of the organization. Strategic plan states the purpose and ethical conduct of an organization with strategies designed to reach the targets. Strategic planning includes the understanding of values, mission, vision and plan of action of an organization.

Transitional requirements

Transitional requirements are useful in implementing a new product. Transitional requirements are not permanent. They only assist the transition from the current state to the future state. Transition requirements are developed only when the current and the future state solutions are defined. Transition requirements changes once a process is completed.

Stakeholder requirements

It is a business analysis. Stakeholder requirements describe the requirements of varied stakeholders and user groups who are affected by the solution. It focuses on the stakeholder identification, communication and classification.

By identifying the requirements in business analysis, the confusion may be avoided and helps in meeting the business objectives.
